Partnerships are the key to the success of Warren County Career Center’s programs and its students. One of the many partners for the medical programs, all a part of the Greentree Health Science Academy, is the Otterbein Lebanon Retirement Community, which provides internship, externship and employment opportunities for students.
Adult Education programs at Greentree include Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomy Tech, Multi-skilled Medical Technician, EKG Tech, and State-Tested Nursing Assistant, or STNA. High school students at Greentree explore and experience their many career options during the two-year program. They also have the opportunity to train for and test for the State-Tested Nursing Assistant certification.
Recently, students who finished the STNA course and are continuing into nursing education met with Haze Flowers, Director of Human Resources, and Sharon Strunk, RN, Director of Nursing at Otterbein, to talk about employment. Otterbein wants to be first in line to hire the WCCC students, Mr. Flowers told them. They were asked about their impressions of the facility and all said they had positive experiences with their externships at Otterbein.
“The staff did a good job of explaining why and how they do things,” student Jen Knauf said. “The staff here is very caring and efficient.”
